A repurposed heirloom diamond
Hello! This year is just flying by, how can it be Autumn already? I just love this time of year, filled with change and hope. I have been enjoying heading out into the woods and seeing all the beautiful colours of the changing leaves. Our little dog loves to run around and scrunch them under his feet!
The golden oak trees on my walks have caught my eye lately, reminding me of one of my favourite commissions from earlier this year. I was entrusted with my client’s precious diamond, which was inherited from her Grandmother. The brief was to create a necklace featuring the diamond, alongside oak leaves, and acorn, and a little wren bird. All of my favourite things! It was such a creative piece to design, and I loved sketching the elements in different compositions.
A vision board, design sketches, and the chosen design hand-carved in wax.
Once my client chose the design she liked, I carved the little elements in jeweller’s wax, which was then cast into white gold. The diamond setting and chain were then soldered on afterwards, and the piece was hand detailed, refined and polished, before taking flight to its forever home.
I was so happy with how this turned out, and my client was delighted too!
I absolutely love working on bespoke pieces like these, especially those with nature symbolism that holds such personal meaning. It reminds me of our deep connection with nature, and the enduring symbolism that jewellery carries.
It was so special to repurpose this precious jewel and breathe new life into it. If you are dreaming of a bespoke nature inspired piece to celebrate love, family, or just for you, I’d love to hear from you!
